About The Score | 7 - 10 am: They once called Denver a Broncos town. Little did they know that the Rockies would break every Major League attendance record in the book. Or that the Avs would string together the longest sellout streak in NHL history. Or that ex-CU Buff Chauncey Billups would return home and whip the Pepsi Center into a playoff frenzy.
Moral to the story: Denver isn’t just a Broncos town. It’s a great sports town, one that deserves a vibrant, cutting-edge morning talk show focused on the local teams and their issues. Broncos Country, not Red Sox Nation. Forget Mike and Mike. We’re talking Melo and Moreno.
Introducing The Score with Armstrong and Shapiro, airing 7:00 to 10:00 a.m. weekdays on Mile High Sports Radio AM 1510. Co-hosts Jim Armstrong and Les Shapiro have a combined 50 years on the local sports beat, Armstrong as an award-winning columnist for The Denver Post, Shapiro as an Emmy-winning anchor at KCNC-Channel 4 and Fox 31.
These guys don’t just observe the local sports scene. They work the locker rooms, go behind the scenes, and get a real feel for what’s going on. They bring a depth of knowledge unmatched on Denver sports radio, one that leads to loyal listeners and loyal customers. Join them on their new adventure on The Score on Mile High Sports Radio, the official home of the Avs and Nuggets.
| About Jim Armstrong: There’s more to the man than those goofy Hawaiian shirts. What other Denver media personality can lay claim to three Colorado Sports Writer of the Year awards, a regular fill-in gig on ESPN’s Around the Horn, a Westword Best Sports Talk Show Host award and an appearance on a Trivial Pursuit card? Jimmy can. He’s been there, done all that. Along the way, he has become one of the most knowledgeable figures on the Denver sports scene. It was hard not to, given his 25 years of experience at The Denver Post and on local radio and TV airwaves.

Now it’s on to 1510 Mile High Sports Radio. If you think Armstrong’s Page 2 column in The Post is funny, check him out on The Score, where he plans to win the gold in the Envelope-Pushing Olympics. Oh, and did we mention he grills a mean brat, calls his mother twice a week, and is a good people person?
About Les Shapiro: Hey, who’s that guy next to Les? You know, up there on the silver screen? The answer: Kevin Costner. It’s true. Talk about a face not made for radio. Les spent 17 years as a sports anchor at KCNC-Channel 4 and KDVR-Fox 31, then landed a role as, what else, a TV reporter in Costner’s 2008 movie, Swing Vote. He has won an Emmy and snagged a Westword Best Sportscaster award. He has been a regular host of the Mike Shanahan Show.
His perspective on the local sports scene is appreciated so much, he has become a member of the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame selection committee. Hey, stuff happens when you’ve been around for 25 years. During that time, Shapiro has become a pillar in the Denver community, chairing or MC’ing various charity events, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Project Exile and the Lupus Foundation.
When Shapiro talks about Denver sports, people listen. That’s why we teamed him with Jim Armstrong on The Score, soon to be the city’s leading local morning sports-talk show.
Just one more thing. The Score is committed to talking local sports, from A (Avs) to Z (Gary Zimmerman). But if the Cubs happen to win the World Series one of these centuries, please cut Les a little slack. He won’t be able to help himself.
